Our Instructors and Staff:

Howie Brounstein has taught botany, herbalism, and wildcrafting extensively for decades, including at such herbal establishments as the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine. He is the co-owner and a primary instructor of the Columbines School of Botanical Studies and has a clinical practice in Eugene, Oregon. He is well known for his brilliant in depth teaching style and his passionate love of plants.

Leah Kays Leah is a 2006 graduate of Columbines School of Botanical Studies and has been involved with the school since. She is a botanist and herbalist from Portland, Oregon. Experienced and earth-centered, She has grown from years of substitute teaching for Columbines into a full time instructor.

Graduate Programs

Two Graduate Field Programs are offered in alternating years and provide opportunities for continued 2nd and 3rd year field studies beyond the first year.

Graduate Program: Further Botanical Studies

This program continues the journey with expanded studies in botany, herbalism, and wildcrafting. Students will revisit key foundations from the first year and receive an introduction or review of ecology concepts. This program presents all new material tailored to class interests and experience ensuring both depth and variety in the curriculum.

Details

5 field trips, 2 overnight field trips, and 1 three day field trip.
Pre-requisites: Successful completion of the 1st Year Apprenticeship.
Instructors: Brounstein, Kays.

$2,100 for field only program includes a $500 non-refundable deposit. A $300.00 discount will
occur for payment in full before January 15, 2026.

$2,910 for full program with Second Year Lectures includes a $500 non-refundable deposit. A
$300.00 discount will occur for payment in full for the field portion before January 15, 2026.

 

Columbines Alumni can purchase these trip individually after February 15, 2026 if there are spaces left after full enrollment.

Single Day Trip: $200 including a $50 non-refundable deposit
Two Day Overnight: $375 including a $100 non-refundable deposit
Three Day Overnight: $550 including a $150 non-refundable deposit
